In Chess Naming is Important. Wrong names lead to blunders!

NM Dan Heisman discusses the underrated topic of converting thought process “English” to making moves. In chess, many things are given names: openings, endgames, puzzles, combinations, maneuvers, ideas. How you name things when you think is important. If you see a queen trade an erroneously think “I don’t want to LOSE my queen” then you give it a negative connotation even if the trade is equal or even favorable. Giving things names not only highlights them but makes them easier to understand and remember.

NM Dan Heisman has been a full-time chess instructor since 1996 and is the author of 12 chess books, the TV show “Q&A with Coach Heisman” on Chess.com and the radio show “Ask the Renaissance Man” on the Internet Chess Club.
